Lyman W. Attwood

lymanattwoodcroppedLyman W. Attwood of Smith Center, Kansas was born Septemeber 3, 1926, the eldest son of Roy and Della (Woolsey) Attwood in Smith Center, Kansas. Lyman left this world peacefully on February, 8, 2013 at the age of 86 with his family at his bedside.

Lyman graduated from Smith Center High School with the class of 1944. He married Donna L. Wagner, July 2, 1945 and entered the Army September, 1945. He returned to Smith Center after serving his country and went into business with his father at Attwood Implement in Smith Center. He sold the Implement Company in 1966 and sold insurance until his retirement. Lyman and Donna lived in Lawrenece, Kansas from 1978 to 1986 where he sold Insurance.

Lyman enjoyed flying and was a memeber of the local flying club. He was an avid golfer and could be found at the Smith Center Country Club playing golf with many of his friends. Lyman enjoyed playing cards and was a member of many bridge clubs around the community and in his later years could be found playing pitch with the gang and the residents of the Smith County Care Center. One of Lyman’s favorite past times was following his beloved Kansas Jayhawks. Lyman and Donna enjoyed many activities together which included traveling, attending Kansas Jayhawk events, and watching their grandchildren activities.

Lyman was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church of Smith Center and enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 220 and a past Commander. He was a Mason and a member of the Isis Shrine of Salina.

Lyman was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Louene Alden. He is survived by his wife Donna, his brother Wayne Attwood of Spokane, Washington, his son Ronald and wife Becky, daughter Leann (Annie) and husband Ralph Stepp of Smith Center. Grandchildren Shelly (Jerome) Gomer of Harker Heights, TX, Troy (Kandis) Attwood, Amber Reagan and friend Mike Heiland, Sara (Robert) Pruden, of Smith Center, and Ashley Stepp of Kansas City, MO. Great grandchildren Britney, Brooke, Justin, and Joshua Gomer of Harker Heights, TX, Lillie Reagan, Parker and Titus Attwood, Emily, Ellie, and Abby Pruden of Smith Center.

A graveside memorial service and inurnment will be held at 2:00PM, Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Fairview Cemetery in Smith Center.

Memorials may be made in his name to the United Methodist Church of Smith Center, or the American Legion Post 220 baseball program.
